Battambang Authorities Unlawfully Taking Down Sam Rainsy Party Signs

Sam Rainsy Party strongly condemns Battambang authorities for pulling down four SRP signs in Battambang town this morning. This act is in violation of the Law on Political Parties which stipulates that each political party shall have its name and a symbol.

Furthermore, Battambang authorities violate Article 4 of the same law by allowing the Cambodian People’s Party to keep their signs in the same locations.

Article 4 of the Law on Political Parties stipulates: ” All political parties shall be entitled to the same rights, privileges and shall receive equal treatment from the Royal Government and authorities at all levels”.

SRP is most concerned by this act of harassment and discrimination as registration of voters is nearing.

SRP calls for the concerned ministry to take immediate action and to ensure free and fair elections that begins with fair competition.

The four SRP signs were taken down from the following locations in Battambang town:

  1. Watt Kampaign Elementary School;
  2. Watt Damrey Sar;
  3. Svay Por commune office;
  4. Samdech Euv High School.

sacred Forest Sold- Villagers detained.

I was at same shrine this morning with just 10 youth and some Beung Kak Lake families. We were totally surrounded by security guards with order from their superior. We chasedd them away.
The message from the people to the government is clear: we will fight and we are united.
When the government uses “social order” as a pretext to detain citizens, it is nothing more than a sign of oppression.
