Cambodia shootings ‘show worrying impunity’

For months, I have been calling for the total ban on the use of arms and electric batons against protesters.

I even met with the UN coordinator in Phnom Penh to convey my concern on state violence, in particular state violence against women.

Workers are beaten, kicked, shot at during protests. Anti-riot police usually out-number protesters. They are usually used to protect land owners, tycoons, companies, government officials.

Injured protesters are even prosecuted by the courts.
